OVER-THE-COUNTER DRUGS AND PRESCRIPTION DRUGS One of the many possible unwanted side effects of drugs on prescription or drugs sold over the counter is that they can compromise the nutritional status of either prospective parent. These include simple things sold for coughs, colds, indigestion, and pain relief. Aspirin, which is widely used for pain relief and in many preparations for coughs, colds and flu, especially when combined with caffeine, increases the urinary excretion of Vitamin C and decreases the blood levels of Folic Acid. Aspirin, if taken in high doses, can inhibit ovulation. The use of antacids that contain aluminius can contribute to a high body burden of this heavy metal and aluminium in itself is an irritant to the gut lining. Some antacids can lead to a Thiamine (B1) deficiency. Some antidepressants, antihistamines, many cough mixtures and oral contraceptives, and most interestingly Clomiphene (commonly known as Clomid used to treat infertility) affect the production of cervical mucus in a variety of ways. Also, Clomid raises copper levels, which can lower zinc levels.
Zinc - about which Professor Bryce-Smith said: “If a new drug
had been found with this broad range of properties, it would have
been hailed as the miracle discovery of the century. Precious Zinc."
