| Are Vitamin and Mineral Supplements Safe? | |
Many of you will have noticed a lot of unsubstantiated reporting in the papers, especially in the tabloids, concerning vitamins and minerals. This is because the Food Standards Agency Committee has just set some new regulations. You need to know the background to this. The pharmaceutical firms have realised how much their profits are falling due to people turning to natural healing methods. The Government formed a Committee of 15 people to review the use of vitamins and minerals. Those appointed declared, between then, 77 vested interests in the pharmaceutical industry! Not one person with a nutritional training was included, nobody from the vitamin industry – all of whom have immense knowledge of their subject – no health author or even journalist, - nobody, in fact, who had any knowledge of the subject in hand! The results they eventually came up with show this. Some of their limits are ludicrously high and some are far too low. The “RDAs” were originally set as the level that had to be present in the foods fed to the POWs in order that they were handed back in reasonable health at the end of hostilities. These were basically fit young men, and by definition they were not procreating at the time. The “RDA” was the Required Daily Allowance. This later became referred to as the Recommended Daily Allowance, which was an error. They have now actually replaced these with the “RNIs” (Recommended Nutritional Intakes) which are somewhat larger. However, the whole idea of a “blanket coverage” amount has to be complete nonsense at a personal level, although it may provide some sort of rough benchmark regarding minimum levels in the army’s or prisoner’s food – which is what was originally intended. We have given the full Foresight programmes for the last 25 years based on the individual’s needs, to promote fertility and produce normal, healthy babies. Our record in this area is second to none. You can take our programme with confidence, but to back this up I would suggest you obtain and read “Planning for a Healthy Baby” which has been written for all of you, so that you may have a clearer picture of why we do what we do. Everybody is obviously free to do exactly as they wish, but I have
to point out that where essential nutrients are left out of our programme,
we may not be so successful at helping you to become pregnant, or at
helping to safeguard the health and development of your future baby.
